Having completed a thorough investigation into a sizeable PDN we have found that older systems can react in different ways. When testing PDN's plenty of time is required to ensure each pipework leg is fully understood, especially if there are any reservoirs present. We have discovered that even though some council samples have failed it is not as a result of poor borehole water quality but the result of other factors not necessarily considered. This brought-to-mind how we deal with large buildings when we are conducting Legionella Risk Assessments and putting together 'Written Schemes'. In both disciplines the first results gathered aren't necessarily the whole truth. Our patience and diligence as scientists asking 'what if' and 'why' and 'how' has helped our clients understand the dynamic nature of their PDN and how to best manage it thus protecting the drinking water supply to many residents and businesses.
