Do I need permission to install a borehole?
In most cases, no formal planning permission is required, though water abstraction over 20 cubic metres per day requires a licence from the Environment Agency. We handle the paperwork and liaison as part of any install where it's needed.
What does a typical install cost?
Every install is bespoke, so there is no typical figure. Costs depend on source depth, water chemistry, storage requirements and property demand. We provide a fixed-price quote after a site survey.
Does a hosepipe ban apply to a private water supply?
No. A temporary use ban is imposed by a water company on its own customers, so it does not cover water you draw from your own borehole or spring. If the property also has a mains connection, the ban still applies to anything you use from the mains.
What happens to a borehole in a drought?
Groundwater levels drop in a long dry spell, and shallow wells and springs feel it first. We measure the yield at survey and size the storage to carry the property through peak summer demand. If a source looks marginal, we tell you before you commit to anything.
How long does a borehole and treatment system last?
A properly designed and installed system will run for 25–40 years with routine maintenance. Filtration media and UV lamps are consumables replaced on a service schedule. The borehole itself, the pump housing, and the treatment vessels are all long-life.
How often does the water need testing?
Annually as standard, though we recommend more frequent testing if your source water is known to be variable. All testing goes through a UKAS-accredited laboratory.
What happens if something goes wrong outside working hours?
Existing service clients have direct access to our engineers on a 24-hour emergency line. In most cases we can get to site within four hours of the call.
Can you take over servicing a system installed by someone else?
Yes, provided the system is safe to work on and we can access the plant. We start with a full inspection and water analysis, then propose any remedial work needed before taking on the ongoing service contract.
